Core Values and Why

Examining Core Beliefs are on my mind. There is a lot written about this and it is usually not taught, unfortunately. Our Why is more easily identified after we go through the exercise of defining our Core. People relate to us, do business with us, etc., because of our Why. Who knew? This isn’t taught either, in school, anyway. Now we are learning, and there is some very good material and lessons for us. They make sense. Let me digress with one business example, which can easily be used in other contexts we are living in.

People often reject social marketing/network marketing without understanding the scope and practice that they see daily and don’t recognize. Then some change their mind and become distributors–simply because they believe it is an easy way to make money.

This happened to me. I had a friend in Michigan, a surgeon, a man of the cloth–who, in many ways, made me feel small about my being involved in Shaklee. He, of course, being a doctor was above it. But I admired him…I was just getting started…and I had my own doubts, so his opinion mattered to me.

The good news is that I didn’t let him knock me down, and a year or so later, I was shocked to learn that he had hooked up with another network marketing company as their spokesperson. The company he joined sold products that Shaklee would never make or market. That didn’t stop him, because it was all about the money.

It seems that if the money is big enough, it will, for some, overcome any bias. When armed with our Core Beliefs and values, and our Why, I suggest we will be less likely to compromise ourselves. There has been a lot of toxic money around lately. Why?
