Eat Real food

The 17,000 new foodlike items that land on our market shelves, coolers, and freezers, each year, are some times described as frankenfoods, or, ‘taint fit for man nor beast. Many are high profit products for the manufacturer. High fat, sugar, salt , alone or together, can make them addictive. The flesh is weak. I’m teased by it all too. Michael Pollan, in Food Rules, goes on to say “they’re highly processed concoctions designed by food scientists, consisting mostly of ingredients derived from corn and soy (both now often Roundup victims) that no normal person keeps in their pantry, and they contain chemical additives with which the human body has not long been acquainted. Today much of the challenge of eating well comes down to choosing real food and avoiding these industrial novelties.” If you are looking at school lunch, elder service meals, and some others, you may be amazed, irritated, frustrated, discouraged, or have other emotional feelings depending on your perspective. Maybe I will delve into those areas at some time. As a former chef, food buyer, spec writer, Director of Food Service here and there, Clinical Dietitian, live to eat, I know it can be much better. Some interesting comment were made about yesterday’s post. Some good ideas. Two of us came up with a recipe for a sports recovery drink for vegan’s.. Bon appetit, and, “You can go only as far as your nutrition will take you.”
