Sleep and Cortisol

As the story today suggested, we have agency to get our metabolic house in order. One of the legs of our 3 or 4 legged stool is sleep. Cortisol and sleep have a relationship. We are in charge of our cortisol. Hmmm…sometimes we are wired and tired and can’t sleep. Effort is required to escape the default modern environment has conspired against our ancient (and formerly helpful) fat storing genes, by overfeeding, undermoving and undersleeping us all. (Peter Attia, MD, in Outlive)[A great book, btw]. You need rest. In fact, your survival literally depends on your ability to sleep.

Cortisol, the substance we associate with stress, has a powerful influence on sleep and waking in the human body. It stimulates your fight and flight biochemistry. That’s not a time you will be going to sleep. Circadian rhythm is also involved. Here’s a link to a really great and understandable article: Healthline. How Does Cortisol Affect Your Sleep? With the help from Dr. Attia, Healthline, and our five days of Zen of Sleep (and self care) Challenge you will have the tools and incentive to wrestle with getting things in order to manage sleep and some other things. We have a private group to do this so let me know if you are interested and I will connect you. Today is day 1, and it is easy to catch up. Everything is posted. Bruce
